This year's AGM was held at the A.K. Bell Library in Perth on Saturday 26th March 2022. The Library had been the previous venue for the AGM prior to the zoom format adopted in 2021 due to Covid restrictions. 35 members were present, joined by five guests for the afternoon lectures from Charlie MacLeod (Search and Rescue Dog Association SARDA) and Stuart Younie (Mountaineering Scotland) and the Quiz set and run by Bert Barnett.
Alf Barnard was appointed as the new President who gave sincere thanks, on behalf of all Society members, to Anne Butler who had served as President since November 2018, taking over after the sudden death of David Batty, had handled all the difficulties thrown up by the Covid pandemic since March 2020 and its related restrictions while continuing as the Membership and Meet Secretary. She continues to fill these roles as well as taking over as Vice-President. Ann White had very kindly agreed to carry on as Secretary for one more year and Oliver Bartrum remains as Treasurer.
The non-office holding commmittee members are Irene Leckie, Alan Rowan, Keith and Di Williams and one returning member, Jim Roberston and, one new member, David Gibson.
All the appoinments were approved by unanimous vote. Volunteers from the Society to serve on the committee are needed. If you are willing to help, please contact one of the existing committee members.
The Treasurer presented the financial report for 2021. Income was down and expenses were up. An increase in the membership subscription for 2022 from £20.00 to £30.00 was approved as was a new due date for payment: 1st May rather than 30th June.
Other matters covered included the Munro Legacy Exhibition and its follow-up film, the Society's Newsletters and Journals (Journal 6 is due publication later this year), Mountain Reporting, the Archives, the Meets Programme, assistance to Mountaineering Scotland navigation courses and the 20th anniversary tree planting in Knoydart.
The President thanked all members present for attending the AGM and the speakers for their excellent talks on the work of SARDA and Mountaineering Scotland "Then and Now" as well as our own Quizmaster for testing members' mountain knowledge and encouraging lively discussion.
Next year's AGM will be on Saturday 25th March 2023; its format (zoom or actual meeting) to be confirmed.
